Weekend of Firsts

There's so much to look forward to this weekend! No, it's not just the beginning of Lunar New Year, but it's also the first ever small group TFN and the start of Course 101 and SUPs Thrive! Now that we're starting small group TFNs, things can get a little confusing. If you find yourself at a loss of where to go, contact one of the staff in your group. There's a handy dandy list of contacts in the right column if you don't know who to call. Sunday 1/22/12 @ 12pm 104 Peterson Hall The first Course 101 meeting will be at noon at 104 Peterson Hall. You should've received the week 1 material to be completed before class time on Sunday. Let us know if you need a packet. Sunday 1/22/12 @ 12pm 102 Peterson Hall Starting this Sunday is also the first SUPs Thrive course (geared towards Sophomore and Up Christians who have taken Course 101). Like I said, exciting things are happening this weekend. Don't Miss out!

Sign-Ups and Switching Things Up

Hot off the Press! We're switching things up a bit this quarter. Starting this coming Friday, we're going to try out a new meeting schedule for TFN. For two Fridays in a row, we'll be having TFN by small groups followed by a third Friday in our regular large group format. This is so that we can have time to fellowship at home or at various locations in a more cozy setting. One of the staff will be contacting you about where your small group is meeting. But if you have any questions, feel free to call up one of the staff (contact info found in the right column Also, don't forget to sign up for the following. Two courses are starting this coming Sunday! Course 101 Starting This Sunday 1/22/12 @ 12pm Location: TBA Course 101 is a six week course on the foundations of Christianity. Whether you grew up in church or have no church background, this course can answer a lot of your questions about God, the Bible, the meaning of life. The course will be every Sunday at noon on campus. Week 1 will be next Sunday 1/22/12 so sign up now! SUPs Thrive Starting This Sunday 1/22/12 @ 12pm Location: TBA We are offering Thrive course for SUPs (Sophomores and Up) this quarter. The pre-requisite for signing up is to have taken Course 101. Sign up here! 2012 Winter Retreat We will be having our first SD Winter Retreat on President’s Weekend, Sat 2/18 to Mon 2/20! This is a time to be able to reflect on God’s word away from the busy-ness of school. So set aside the next three day weekend and sign up here.

TFN Friday, 1/13/2012 6:30pm @ the MPR Just a reminder, as we all get back into the swing of things, there is TFN this Friday. For those of you who do not know, TFN stands for "The Friday Night", which is our fellowship's large group bible study. Like always, we'll be starting with dinner at 6:30pm. We'll be at the MPR (room behind Yogurtworld) rather than our usual Center Hall location. See you guys Friday!

Winter Welcome Nights

Wednesday 1/11/2012 @ 6:30pm Locations: MPR, Asante Room (ERC - International House), and Yosemite Room (Warren - Canyon Vista) Hi everyone! I hope you all are excited to come back to San Diego. Even though it's winter, we've been having sunny skies in the mid 70s with a slight breeze! But the weather is not the only thing you can look forward to. This coming Wednesday we'll be having 3... yes, THREE welcome nights! Instead of having one big shebang, we're going to have the same program in three locations. That means for you ERC folk, there's no need to hike down to the MPR. Be sure to invite your friends as a2f Winter Welcome Night will be right at your doorstep! Ushering in the New Year

Watchnight Service @ Fisk House Saturday 12/31 a.k.a New Year's Eve Because the New Year happens to fall on a weekend, we're going to be switching things up a bit. If you happen to be in the SD area, here's some announcements that apply to you! As mentioned before, every year our church gathers together to reflect, sing, and listen to sharing from various church members. It is our way of ending the current year and welcoming the new year together. New Year's Day Worship Service @ Fisk House Sunday 1/1 @ 12am (Midnight!) We'll also be having Sunday Worship Service right after the Watchnight Service at 12am. Yes, that's midnight! When else would we ever be able to try this out?!? So there will be no Sunday Worship Service during the daylight hours of January 1st, but we'll be having service together right after the countdown to the new year. For those of you who won't be able to join us, we hope to hear from you on the Winter Challenge blog!

Now that you guys are well rested from your first few days of winter break, I'd like to turn your attention to the A2F Winter Challenge blog (link to your right). It's a place where YOU can post up sharings from your DT, or acts of service you engage in during our 4 weeks apart. We hope that this can be a tool for us to spur one another on and just keep in touch over the break. So check it out and if you have something to share, please update us! Don't forget to sign up for the Knott's Berry Farm trip if you happen to be in the LA area on January 2nd. You can find the link to the sign-up page in the right column. Lastly, here are some announcements for you local SD folks: No TFN on 12/23 but we'll be having Sunday Worship Service on Christmas Day (12/25) at 11am. We'll be meeting at Fisk House. Finals Week Announcements

6:30pm, Friday 12/9 @ Fisk House For those of you who will still be around at the end of this week, TFN will be at Pastor Daniel and Sarah's house. Let one of the staff know that you'll still be around so you can catch a ride to Fisk. Pickups will be at Triton Statue and Pangea at 6:30pm. After bible study, we'll be heading over to Balboa Park to see the festive Christmas decorations so remember to dress warmly! We didn't want to distract you guys from studying for finals, but this announcement just couldn't wait! A2F is going to Knotts Berry Farm over Winter Break!!! We're planning on going there on Monday, January 2nd. And the great news doesn't stop there! We got a special group discount of $25 per ticket. If you would like to come, go to the sign up page to your right. So in the mean time, buckle down and study hard!

Upcoming: Bible Study & Christmas Gift Exchange

Friday 12/2, 7:00pm @ The Forum (4th Floor Price Center) Yes, I know, we just got back from Thanksgiving, and Christmas is still a few weeks away. But hey -- it's already the last week of instruction! So to end this quarter with a bang, we're having our annual Christmas party this Friday. We'll start off with a special, scrumptious dinner, followed by Bible study, caroling, snacks... and our exhilarating gift exchange! We even rented out a special room for this occasion. The Forum is located on the 4th floor of the Price Center. The elevator next to Burger King can take you there. Please bring a WRAPPED gift of approximately $5 in value for the gift exchange. Happy Thanksgiving!

Are you anxiously awaiting for the next couple of days to be over so you can go home for Thanksgiving? I know I am! But in the meantime, here are some changes to our regular schedule. First off, no Bible Study this week. Sad, I know! But we moved prayer meeting to Tuesday at 8:30pm (212 Center Hall) so we'll be together once more before you head home! For those of you who are staying here during Thanksgiving, you are welcome to come over to Pastor Daniel and Sarah's place for a yummy home-cooked meal on Wednesday and Thursday. Let your life group leader know if you would like to come over! Friday 12/2, 7:00pm Bible Study & Christmas Gift Exchange @ The Forum (4th Floor Price Center) Also, just a heads up for next Friday, we'll be having a Christmas party and gift exchange after Bible study. The Forum is located on the 4th floor of the Price Center.The elevator next to Burger King can take you there. You won't miss it. Please bring a gift of approximately $5 in value -- keep that in mind if you happen to be doing some Black Friday shopping! Something Out of the Ordinary

For those of you who won't be able to make it to the Thanksgiving Retreat, make note of the special time and location change for Sunday Worship Service. We'll be meeting at 109 Center Hall at 7pm to give ample time for Jessica Chao to fly down from Berkeley to run Sunday service. Thank you, Jessica! Also, please note that there is no Thrive or Course 101 this Sunday. The LAST session will take place SATURDAY 11/19 from 12-2pm. We will keep you posted with updated info early next week.

*GASP* No TFN this Friday?!?

WEDNESDAY 11/9, 8PM Bible Study @ 105 CENTER HALL Yes, that's right! No bible study this Friday....but we'll be having it on Wednesday instead because we'll be going up to Berkeley for the Thanksgiving Retreat this weekend! We will be having a short bible study on Wednesday from 8pm-9pm followed by prayer meeting. So make note of this time change! As mentioned before, Round 2 of Freshmen STEW-dy Hall (Stewsday + Study Hall) is happening this Tuesday. Please contact your lifegroup leader to see if your turn is up! Those who signed up for the Thanksgiving Retreat will be contacted this week regarding departure times and location. For those who tragically can't make it to this once-a-year event, stay tuned for awesome updates from the Bay Area!

For those of you who are behind on the times, we are finishing up a 3-part message series on the effects of sin and the need to pause and think about the implications of our actions. We'll be starting off the night at 6:30 with dinner, followed by life group, and after bible study we'll be having our first TC practice! *scroll down to find out more about TC* Friday ~ Sunday 11/11-11/13 THANKSGIVING RETREAT IN BERKELEY Fee: $25 (for gas to and from NorCal) Wow! Soon we'll be driving up to the Bay Area for the Thanksgiving Retreat! The SUP's who came with us last year can totally vouch for what a special and memorable time it was. It'll be a weekend packed with sharings from other ministries and times of fun and fellowship. The retreat registration, food during the retreat and lodging for the 3 nights are FREE!!! We just ask that you chip in $25 for gas and bring some cash for the couple of meals we'll be having on the road trip and during our sightseeing time. Here's what's up for this weekend: Friday, 10/28, 6:30pm FRIDAY BIBLE STUDY @ 105 Center Hall As always, we will be starting off this weekend with Bible study at 105 Center Hall. Come at 6:30 for something delicious! After Bible study we will be heading over to the beach for a good ol'-fashioned San Diego bonfire. Marshmallows, hot links, and s'mores galore! You don't want to miss out! Bring a jacket as it'll be a little chilly. Saturday, 10/29, 7:00pm DUMPLING MAKING @ Pastor Daniel & Sarah's House Meet at Triton Statue or Pangea Parking Lot @ 7 PM Join us Saturday for Dumpling Making Night. Boil 'em, fry 'em... and deep fry 'em! We provide the ingredients, you provide the labor (and yes, you get to eat 'em too!). Friday Overnighter and Saturday LA Trip

Afterwards, we'll be having not only an overnighter on Friday, where we may be watching epic films like Lord of the Rings and enjoying some good snacks, but we'll also have a trip to LA for Korean BBQ lunch the following day! This Weekend: TFN, Burritos & Balboa Park, and Thrive/C101 begin!

Hey everyone, Hope your first full week of classes went well. Here are the exciting things happening this weekend at a2f: First, we'll be continuing with our 2nd meeting of Life Groups and our 2nd installment of the "Questions God Asks" series. Then on Saturday, join us for a deliciously fun outing to get some burritos, carne asada fries, and visit Balboa Park! And last but not least, join us on Sunday at 2PM for our worship service! For those in Thrive or Course 101, we will be meeting at 12PM at Center Hall (check back on our website for exact room location, or look for the A-frames when you get to Center Hall).
