Recap: TFN + SECOND RIMAC SPORTS NIGHT

By Tracy | 5 comments

What's up everyone!  This past Friday was special because we met brothers and sisters separately for TFN.  All the bros met on campus for TFN where we got to bond over chili dogs for dinner and heard a manly message given by Mike!  After the message we had a Freshman vs SUPs Nerf gun shooting competition that involved knocking cups off a table.  The sisters met at Fisk house and got to hang out over a delicious chicken dinner and our very own Judy gave a thought provoking talk. Afterwards, we met at RIMAC to finish off our night and continue the Freshman vs SUPs class competition that we started at last week's RIMAC sports night.  RIMAC sports night was once again a fun, competitive, and exciting night of indoor soccer, ultimate frisbee, and Braveheart.  Last week when we had RIMAC, the SUPs prevailed and beat the Freshmen.  This time the Freshman got revenge and in the end prevailed to win their very first RIMAC sports night!

Special Talk and RIMAC Night Recap!

By Richard Y | 4 comments

Hey Everyone! We had a special treat last Friday, starting off with a special talk on religious pluralism followed by our first RIMAC Night of the year.  Pastor Daniel gave us a  pretty comprehensive and compelling case regarding religious pluralism, which addresses the question, "Are all religions equally true?"  We learned about mutual exclusivity, the difference between ethical and religious teachings, and got a very solid primer about Buddhism too.  It was refreshing to hear Pastor Daniel's presentation and glean from his many years of  apologetics and religious studies .  We ended the talk with a Q&C session (Questions and Clarifications) where everyone had the opportunity to ask for more insights posed by the talk. Afterwards, we made our way to RIMAC, where we had most of the Arena to play some of our most favorite games--no skill required!  We'll let the pictures speak for themselves: If you missed out on our Braveheart competition with all the yoga balls flying around, do not despair!  We are doing it again this week!  Come join us!

A Night Out On The Town: Life Group TFN Recap

By Richard Y | 2 comments

Hi everyone! If you weren't able to find us at Center Hall this past Friday, it's because we met in life groups for TFN.  We met at different places for dinner and then had Bible study through Mark 9, in which we learned about Jesus' transfiguration and what that represented.  We were very blessed by these messages, and it reminded us once again of who Jesus is and the kind of life He calls us to live. We had an awesome time studying God's word and hanging out together.  Some of the freshman brothers spent the evening at La Jolla Shores, while the other bros played basketball and had a delicious BBQ at Warren.  One of the SUP bros life group went on a night hike while the other group went to work on their swings at the driving range & batting cages.  All the sisters took an excursion to Coronado Island, where they enjoyed tasty desserts at MooTime Creamery, took in the beautiful San Diego cityscape from the waterfront, and then played a rousing game of Elves, Wizard, and Ogres.  Here are some photos from our night out on the town... enjoy!

Family Feud and Flying Monkeys

By Tracy | 4 comments

This past TFN showcased some good healthy competition between the Freshmen and the SUPs (Sophomores & up).  But before we get to that part of the night, and who the victors were, I want to recap the whole night starting with a delicious "Make Your Own Burrito" dinner at Center Hall. After we ate we had our usual Bible study given to us by Pastor Daniel.  We continued through the Re-Markable Jesus series, this time in Mark 8.  We learned about one of the most significant events in Jesus' ministry, in which he asked his disciples, "Who do you say I am?"  This simple yet powerful question has changed the lives of many people in history and is something we should think about for ourselves.  Pastor Daniel also gave us insight into our lives by teaching us that a mature life is making decisions and living by them rather than just going through life and letting our circumstances make our decisions for us. After the thought-provoking message, we had some game time where Jesse led us in our annual Family Feud game.  This time around we played Freshmen vs. SUPs -- and it was the wiser SUPs who came up on top.  The Freshmen had their chance at the end with a triple score round, but came up one answer short in an exciting winner-take-all final round.  In the end, the scoreboard heavily favored the SUPs and they were declared the winners for the 2012 Family Feud. Better luck next year for the Freshmen!  After that, we played a quick game of "Monkey Toss" and snacked on Nachos and refreshing oranges!  It was a fun-filled night -- hope you'll all join us this week as we'll be meeting by Life groups!

DT Groups and New Courses!

By Tracy

DT groups are back! This quarter we'll be having DT group meetings on Tuesday and Thursdays at 9pm. Brothers will be meeting in Price Center (the "quiet" area across from Yogurtworld), and the sisters will be meeting in front of Burger King. These DT group meetings are on a drop-in basis so no need to sign up. We highly encourage you to come to these meetings. those who attended last quarter can testify to how it really helped them do their DTs more regularly and grow closer to those who come to these groups. Like always, this info and the link to the weekly DT material will be in the right column of our blog throughout the quarter for you to refer to.   Also, don't forget to sign up for the new courses being offered this quarter. We got something for everyone! All the Freshmen who have taken Course 101 are encouraged to sign up for Freshmen Sundays, and the SUPs who have taken course 101 can sign up for Thrive.  If you are new to our group or just haven't gotten around to it, we highly encourage you to sign up for Course 101. It is a course on the foundations of Christianity. All of these courses will be offered on Sunday mornings at 12pm.

Spring Break Trip Recap

By Tracy | 1 comment

Hi everyone! It's been awhile, but the spring break trip was not forgotten! Here's a recap of what happened the last weekend before the start of Spring quarter. Unlike last year's trip to Yosemite (when we got snowed in at a house with NO water and NO electricity!), we decided to stay in the sunny "no snow" southern California forest. We started our trip on Thursday night, driving up the I-5 to our rental homes. Nestled high up in the Los Padres National Forest was our huge rental house complete a with a garage of goodies: foosball table, pool table, and air hockey table! We had a fun night of fellowship when we got there on Thursday night. On Friday, to get a glimpse of God's beautiful creation we went on a hike at a nearby trail. When we got there, lo and behold, there was SNOW and lots of it! Though our sneakers were soaked-through 10 minutes into the hike, we all trooped on and was able to finish the 4 mile round trip hike. There are some breathtaking high altitude views at the top of the trail. Though the snow was unexpected, it really added to the beautiful nature that surrounded the trail. After the hike we went back to the house for some Korean BBQ dinner and times of low key hanging out ranging from an intense game of Settlers of Catan, King Kong Shower tournaments, and Pastor Daniel's scary stories.  The sisters called it a night at 1am and went back to our cabin but the brothers stayed up to play an unforgettable round of hide and go seek in the dark! The next day we packed up to get ready to go and before departing went to a park nearby to play kickball where the So Cal team beat the Nor Cal team...again.  After that it was back to L.A. and San Diego to get ready for spring quarter!

Passion Week Announcements

By Tracy

Welcome back everyone! Spring Break was short and sweet, and now we have much to look forward to this quarter. As many of you know, this is the week before Easter, also known as Passion Week on the Christian calendar. To prepare ourselves for Good Friday and Easter, we have a few major events going on throughout the week. Get a glimpse of what Jesus thought and experienced through the individuals he interacted with and the events that occurred. Please sign up for a time slot, and come to Weaver Conference Center (same place as Thanksgiving Celebration). The experience is about an hour long so please give yourself ample time in your schedule to go through the whole exhibit. (Please also bring a set of headphones with you to the exhibit). Tuesday 5pm - 10pm Wednesday 10am-10pm Thursday 10am-10pm Passion of the Christ Viewing 8pm @ 113 Center Hall In lieu of prayer meeting this week, we'll be showing an abridged version of the movie, Passion of the Christ. Spring Break 2012

By Tracy

Hope y'all are enjoying the nice week long break before spring quarter. Here in SD we also kicked back a bit starting off with last week's TFN. After bible study led by Mike Kang, we had a rousing round of NorCAl vs. SoCal kickball game until the lights went off at their usual 10pm. That's when we headed out to Denny's for some dessert and midnight snackage.   On Saturday we had some sports and BBQ at the local park and hang out time at Fisk. But what we're really looking forward to is this weekend's Spring Break Trip! We'll be leaving Thursday night and coming back Saturday night (so no TFN this Friday). Looking forward to seeing the SoCal'ers who will be joining us on the trip!
